This afternoon, Fly Fishers International joined over three dozen other conservation groups in celebrating the signing by President Trump of Senate Bill 47 into law. The John D. Dingell Conservation, Management and Recreaton Act not only secures permanent funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), but also insures that millions of public lands and waters will be better managed.
What stands out is that both political parties in Congress put aside partisan politics to spearhead this legislation. With sponsors from both sides of the aisle, S47 received 92 “yes” votes in the Senate and 363 in the House.
Other benefits of S47 include the addition of 1 million acres of wilderness, and protection of hunting, fishing and shooting rights on federal grounds. It also reauthorizes the Every Kids Outdoors Act, 21st Century Conservation Service Corps, and the Yellowstone Gateway Protection Act. All in all, the bill has over 698 pages of details covering local, state and national conservation interests.
