Gulf Coast events – wait, there’s more!

Our Gulf Coast Classic earlier this month may have seemingly capped off an active season of fly fishing festivals, shows, clinics, and other related events.  But in the immortal words of Billy Mays, “Wait, there’s more!”.

Here are three upcoming events within the GCC over the next 90 days.

May 30 (Sat) – 6th biennial Cenla Fly Fishing Festival.
This event will be held at Kees Park Center, Highway 28 East, Pineville, LA. Time 8:30am – 3:30pm. Free admission. This event is a reschedule from the January date that was canceled due to wintry weather. The Cenla Fest features presentations, fly tying demos, casting clinics, exhibitors and more. Jambalaya lunch available. Benefits Food Bank of Central Louisiana. Hosted by Kisatchie Fly Fishers club. Website: www.kisatchiefly.org

June 13 (Sat) – Tripletail Classic
Launched in 2020, the Tripletail Classic is a fly fishing only tournament in the Mobile Bay area and surrounding waters targeting the Atlantic Tripletail only. In a few short years, it has exploded in popularity, such that the 35 team registration limit is now reached many months before the tournament is held.

The tournament format is Catch-Tag-Photo-Release (CTPR). Participants use dart tagging kits and the Fishing Chaos app to log and submit their catches. The purpose is to tag and release a significant quantity of fish to benefit species research conducted by the University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast Research Lab. Funds raised at the Awards Event go to GCRL conservation efforts. Once again, the FFI Gulf Coast Council will participate in the event’s Conservation Causeway prior to the raffle and tournament results.

June 25 (Thu) – Fly Fishing Film Tour benefitting Casting for Recovery – Southeast Chapter.
This event will be held at NOLA Brewing & Pizza Company, 3033 Tchoupitoulas St., New Orleans. 5:30pm doors open for fundraiser, 7:00pm films begin. Silent auction, prize raffles, local vendors and more. This event raises money for Casting for Recovery retreats for breast cancer patients and survivors in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, & Florida panhandle.
